Habitats - Ecological Sculpture at Surrey University
Working with Surrey Hills Arts, Surrey University and Surrey Wildlife Trust I was asked to combine a sculptural form with a habitat for wildlife.
Over 50% of invertibrates are at risk or in serious decline in the county of Surrey. Which is the most wooded county in the country. These creatures are at the base of the foodchain and critical to the wider population of wildlife. Dead wood is vital for their lifecycle as they feed and breed amongst it.
My idea has been to provide places of refuge and a reservoir of material for these creatures. Piles of deadwood are not neccessarily an appealing sight. So I have built two Arks from timber and filled them with deadwood.
